Introductions and Background Information

Before getting into the adventures I thought it would be fun to get some background information about the City Hikes pets. These are the questions I asked the pet parents so you all can get to know their fur babies a little bit before diving into their adventures.

Where is your pet from?
How and where did you and your pet meet?
How long have you had your pet?
How did your pick you pet's name?
What is your pet's age and birthday?

And anything else that might be interesting for our readers to know.

We adopted Mei Mei shortly after our family dog, Edie, died quietly and gracefully at age 14. We shopped around quite a bit, and found her at Alameda County Shelter. She had been found stray in unincorporated Hayward, with her brother. They were named Sonny and Cher. She was six months old. I didn't want a puppy, but I got persuaded by my family and by her charms. We've had her for a year now. She is great with the kids, and with the foster dogs we take care of.

Mei Mei is Chinese for "little sister". Our two daughters study Mandarin in elementary school, and it seemed an appropriate name for our newest family member. "May" was my eldest daughter's initial idea, and it evolved from there.

She has so much energy, that the several short walks I can give her during the day are insufficient. I'm looking forward to having her expel some energy with help from Merika!

I still think it's better to adopt an adult dog than a puppy. But now I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I started City Hikes Dog Walking after becoming a certified dog walker at the Hayward Animal Shelter. After I realized that so many pet had been owner surrendered due to poor economy and families needing to down size from a house to an apartment. Not being able to find apartments that allow pets forced many families to surrender their beloved pets. I started the business to help people keep their pets happy, healthy, and balanced.
